It seems like there are almost as many opinions on illegal immigration as there are people coming into the country on a daily basis. As the nationwide debate continues on this issue, and many people and organizations begin actively pursuing their own objectives, things are only going to get more complex and difficult. In the middle of all this discussion, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has emerged as one of the main players in this issue.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform has stated that their objectives are “to increase public awareness and understand of the causes and effects of immigration through sharing research and policy analysis,” and to “inform leaders in academe, government, and the media, as well as the public at large the costs of uncontrolled immigration,” and finally to “influence public policy directly by lobbying (to the extent permitted by our tax status) and by protecting the citizens’ rights in the courts.”

FAIR believes that these objectives will help them eventually reach their goals of ending illegal immigrations and setting legal immigration to the lowest feasible levels that are still beneficial to the country’s interests. There are, of course, many other organizations out there that differ in how they think the issue should be resolved, and others that have completely opposite opinions.

For example, the Federation for American Immigration Reform has stated that they advocate a temporary moratorium on all immigration (with certain exceptions), while other groups have advocated a complete amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the country. With such widely varying opinions and suggested solutions, this issue is likely to continue to be hotly contested and debated as many different possible resolutions are considered.
