Survivors of Titanic, Who are these Passengers to Blame?
The Titanic is probably the most controversial sea vessel in the world. It is widely known for its sinking, for more than one thousand passengers who died while aboard it, and for the few hundred survivors of Titanic. Read more here. The Titanic was actually the largest, the most luxurious, and the most technologically advanced passenger steamship at that time when it set off on its maiden voyage. It came from Southampton, England and was supposed to arrive in New York City. A lot of French, Italian, and Irish passengers who wanted to immigrate to the United States were on board. Unfortunately, the ‘unsinkable’ ship sank on the night of April 14, 1912, a few hours after crashing into an iceberg.
Various speculations have arisen after the incident. Most Titanic survivors say that it was the captain’s fault. Captain E.J. Smith ignored several iceberg warnings from other ships and his crew. He also did not call for the ship to slow down. Some blame the fault on the shipbuilders. Sections of the Titanic were held together with almost three million rivets. However, when some of the rivets have been recovered from the shipwreck and analyzed, it was discovered that they were made of substandard iron. So, when the huge ship hit the iceberg, the rivets broke apart. Others blame Bruce Ismay, the Managing Director of the White Star Line. The man was also on the ship and was said to have pressured the captain into maintaining the ship’s fast pace. The competition for Atlantic passengers was intense and he wanted the White Star Line to be the best. To view a list of the Titanic passengers, check out this Wikipedia article.
The architect of the ship, Thomas Andrews, was also blamed by some Titanic survivors and their families. They say that if he had only insisted on the right height for the compartments, the ship might not have sunk. Another theory was that the Jesuits and the government conspired to sink the Titanic. Some people say that the Catholics, the Protestants, and those who opposed the Federal Reserve System were discreetly killed. Everything in Titanic’s history was said to have been carefully planned out. Nonetheless, Captain Stanley Lord was also blamed for the tragedy. He was the radio operator and he had turned off his radio; thus, being unable to receive distress messages from the ship. Today, all Titanic survivors have passed away. The remains of the ship, however, can still be found in the Atlantic Ocean.
